Characteristics and Needs for Older Adults and People Living With Disabilities to Successfully Age in Their Own Homes and Communities

In our ten counties of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula approximately 40% of the population will be age 60 and over by 2030 and that trend will continue through 2040.   That marker becomes more of an eye opener when considering we have four of the “oldest” counties in Virginia.  But we are relatively rural, so our formula share of grant funding continues to dwindle.

This is where the Foundation comes into play – attracting diverse funding sources and filling service gaps

The need for home delivered meals is ever growing.  The need for caregiver support and counseling for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias is escalating rapidly and services are almost non-existent.   The need for home repair, renovation, even for running water and sewer to be added to homes, is more than challenging.

The Bay Aging Board is working with the Foundation Board to prioritize the most urgent needs and determine how we will meet them.  We are proud of our accomplishments to date.  Last year we served more than 32,000 individuals who had a variety of needs – housing, transportation, in-home care and support and counselling.

We offer fee for service programs to those who can afford to pay and generate net revenue that constitutes 70% of our budget.  Bay Aging is a good steward with donations such that 95% of donations go directly to delivering services.
